Detailed Schedule

Day 1

9 am - 12 pm & 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm (All day students choose a different object or do multiple objects together)

Getting to know charcoal as a medium and learning to use it!

Different types of charcoal - vine charcoal, compressed charcoal, and charcoal pencil. Blending practice. Making a simple still life.


Day 2

9 am - 12 pm: Moody Landscapes

Drawing a moody landscape from a photo referenceExploring some different textures that we can make with charcoal- for example fog, smoke, foliage, tree bark, water, etc.

12:30 pm - 3:30 pm: Vintage Cars

Drawing a car in perspective, with an emphasis on glossy finish of metal, glass and other reflective surfaces.


Day 3

9 am - 12 pm: Human head. 

Introduction to the head anatomy, learning to layer skin, hair and fabric.

12:30 pm - 3:30 pm: Animal Portrait

Understanding dog/ cat/ mammal anatomy, similarities and differences between human skull to another mammals skull.

Representing various types of fur.


Day 4

9 am - 12 pm: Master Copy of a Figure Drawing

We learn a lot when we ‘stand on the shoulders of giants’- so for the figure drawing assignment, studying the works of old masters.

12:30 pm - 3:30 pm: Master Copy of a Still Life  (or set up still life)


Day 5

9 am - 12 pm & 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm (All day students work larger and choose more complex topics).

Frequently asked questions about this camp

What is the teacher-student ratio? The teacher-student ratio is 6 to 1 in the camps for 6-10 year olds, and 7 to 1 in camps for 10-18 year olds. Can I enroll my child for 1 or 2 days only? No, the sessions are 5 days long. My child is 1 year younger than the camp age listed. Can she participate in the camp? Student 1 year younger than the camp age listed can attend the camp if the child is really into art in general and the camp topic in particular. Do you provide before and after class/camp care? Our school does not provide extended child care before and after classes. Due to limited space, please bring the kids only for specific time frame according to the class schedule you are registered for. Do you provide extended care? No, we do not provide extended care.
