Grade 8

Contemporary Art & Design

  1. Abstract expressionism: Jackson Pollock, Joan Mitchell, Mark Rothko, Franz Klein. Making an abstract painting in a selected style. Acrylic paint.

  2. Warhol, Lichtenstein, Rosenquist and the  Pop Art movement. Making a collage according to the Pop Art guidelines.

  3. Hayao Miyazaki and history of Manga art. Learning to draw a character in manga style, understanding the difference between human proportions in manga and regular life. Markers and liners on paper.

  4. Ed Ruscha and Conceptualism. Creating a minimalistic composition with words. Stencil, printing inks, acrylic paint.

  5. Jeff Koons, Erwin Wurm, Damien Hirst and contemporary sculpture. Making an absurdist sculpture out of recycled materials.

  6. Elizabeth Peyton. Painting a portrait of a celebrity. Pencil, watercolor paint.

  7. Land art movement: Andy Goldsworthy, Christo and Jeanne-Claude. Burning Man art. Creating a land art installation.

  8. Banksy and the art of graffiti. Custom-made stencil, spray paint.
