online art camp for kids 8-14 years old

This camp will be held ONLINE via ZOOM video conference. Students will need access to a computer / tablet / phone with internet connection and zoom.us. Art materials will be available for pick up from the studio few days before the start of the camp (dates and details will be provided).

5 days:

April 12-16,  July 5-9

Half day: 

9am-12pm or 12:30-3:30pm PST $250

Full day:  9am-3:30pm PST $480

4 days:

June 1-4

Half day: 

9am-12pm or 12:30-3:30pm PST $200

Full day:  9am-3:30pm PST $380

Camp Description: 

Explore the amazing beauty of nature and master various art media during our Botanic Explorations Art camp! We will spend plenty of time outdoors and combine botanical studies with art. Students will learn about various flowers and plants, sketch and paint them in watercolor, acrylics, and pastels, learn to draw trees, bugs, and even humans from life and imagination.

Refund Policy:

We are not offering refunds for new purchases. However, full credit towards future bookings or transfer to another camp/class will be offered for any cancellations made up to 24 hrs before the camp or class start. 

If camp or class is cancelled due to gathering restrictions or shelter in place order placed by state or county authorities, similar online camp/class will be held instead. Students can cancel their registration if online learning does not work for them, with the full credit towards future in person camp/class.

Detailed schedule:

Day 1.

9 am - 10:30 am: BASICS OF REALISTIC SKETCHING . Drawing small objects: flowers, leaves, stones. Understanding such concepts as composition, proportions, and shading. Color pencils.

10:30am-12pm: Using these sketches as material for ornament creations, decorating a wooden box/frame with a unique ornament. Acrilic paint, black liner.

12:00-13:30pm - lunch break.

12:30 pm - 3:30 pm: SCULPTING FUN! Learning about the animals that populate the Bay Area parks. Understanding animal anatomy and movements. Sculpting a composition with one or a few of them. Side project: making beads. Clay.


Day 2.

9 am - 10 am: BASICS OF WATERCOLOR TECHNIQUE. 10:00-12:00 - Learning about different Bay Area trees. Painting a tree. Watercolor on watercolor paper.

12:00-13:30pm - lunch break.

12:30 pm - 3:30 pm: Making handmade cards and bookmarks. Collage, construction paper.


Day 3.

9 am - 9:30 pm: BASICS OF PASTELS.

9:30 - 12:00pm - Learning about various climate zones of California. Understanding linear and areal perspective. Drawing a landscape from a photo reference.

12:00-13:30pm - lunch break.

12:30 pm - 3:30pm: BUGS! Learning about anatomy and life of insects. Sketching various insects from photo references. Color pencils, watercolor.


Day 4.

9 am - 9:30 pm. BASICS OF ACRYLICS.

9:30am -12pm Painting a bouquet of flowers. Understanding color composition, light and shadow, learning to select the most important part of a bouquet and add accent to it. Acrylics.

12:00-13:30pm - lunch break.
Day 5. 9 am - 12 pm & 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm: Learning human proportions while creating a flower-inspired costume.​ Pencil, watercolor.

Day 5.

9 am - 12:00 pm and 12:30-3:30pm.

Working on a creative project that summarizes everything learned at the camp. Can be a poster, a book cover, or a large paintig. Learning to plan and lead the work from compositional sketches to final touches. Media of a choice.
