Camp Description:

Before photography was invented, a portrait was the only way to show and record the appearance of a person. In the first half of the XX century, photography became the most accessible and popular media of traditional portraiture, bringing what was previously an expensive art for almost everyone. This way, photography freed artists from realistic depictions and many contemporary artists began exploring new ways to represent people.

It was (and is) a huge challenge. Now, these artists need to answer the question “How to draw a portrait that is different from the photorealistic representation?” This camp will help to understand contemporary portraiture and experiment with different ways of making one.

High-quality art materials provided.
