Art of XX Century is a program recommended to students that have have mastered art fundamentals basics (i e can freely draw humans, animals, landscapes, and vehicles alike, from real life and imagination).
Students study various aspects of aesthetics and more advanced techniques, learn to deliver artistic messages through the composition and artistic language of the work, while studying the styles and artistic movements of the XX century.
Each lesson covers an important art concept, needed for fluent representational drawing and painting. It is combined with an intro to a cultural phenomenon: a style, and epoch, or a single artist. Students get to create their original artworks from scratch within the guidelines of the topic. Each topic can be adjusted to a variety of levels, from beginners to advanced.
Art teaching is an interactive process. We start a lesson with a short lecture and demonstration (live at studios, pre-recorded for online lessons). Teachers provide advice, help, correct the digital image of a student's work, explain what works in particular cases and what does not, and why.
This year, we are allowed to open in-studio classes with a reduced number of students, and in stable groups. To reduce the in-person contacts, we can not mix students between the groups, neither can we offer one-time trials in person. Therefore trial classes and make-ups are available online only. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Sample instructional video:
Our curriculum covers all major art concepts, such as drawing humans, animals, portraits, landscapes; working with watercolor, acrylics, pastels, pencils, and clay. Some of our instructional videos can be found on youtube for free, available for public use. However, we believe that comprehensive artistic development is impossible without teacher's custom guidance and feedback.
Sample galleries of students' works (click on the links to see the pictures):
Impressionism (understanding the aerial perspective, brushstroke techniques, making a master copy)
Surrealism (creating a composition ispired by surreealist artists)
Fan Art (Painting a favorite character, learning to draw figures and faces alike)
Painting Birds (understanding birds' anatomy and proportions).
Painting Flowers (learning to obtain the desired color by mixing, representing a variety of shapes)
